Walter Hill's THE DRIVER finds Ryan O'Neal playing cat-and-mouse with Bruce Dern to pulsating, rhythmic music emphasizing strings, piano, percussion, guitar. Peter Hyams' THE STAR CHAMBER puts Michael Douglas in middle of judicial suspense, thrills via powerful music with broad, Copland-ish main theme for brass, thought-provoking strings/woodwinds for inner chamber locale, ferocious full-orchestra music for riveting action. Former score presented in mono as originally mixed for movie, includes plethora of music not used in finished film, latter score presented in dynamic stereo from original session elements.
