Fifth western in a row for Sergio Leone after the Dollar Trilogy and “Once Upon a Time in The West”, “Giù la testa” (Duck, you sucker, 1971) is also the fifth collaboration between the director and Ennio Morricone, which would be followed by the final “Once Upon a Time in America” nearly 15 years later, before Leone’s premature death in 1989.

World famous and holder of unlimited resources, with “Giù la testa” Leone directed an epic film that tells of the friendship between a Mexican bandit and an Irish explosives expert, during the historical context of the 1913 Mexican Revolution; lasting over two hours, the film has almost tones of an Hollywood colossal, but its epicness is only occasionally accompanied by Morricone’s music, which focuses more on the romance and melancholy aroused by the two protagonists’ memories.

This score’s main theme alone would have been enough to make it a classic, thanks to the recurring “Sean-Sean” tune, and especially the melody sung by Edda Dell'Orso, a theme that even the less music passionate will immediately recognize!

This title closes the series of AMS Records / Vinyl Magic reissues dedicated to the Leone / Morricone collaboration, with the usual new graphic layout, a 60x30cm poster with flyers and lobby cards and an orange/gold colored vinyl.

Quinto western di fila per Sergio Leone dopo la Trilogia del Dollaro e 'C'era una volta il West', 'Giù la testa' è anche la quinta collaborazione tra il regista ed Ennio Morricone, a cui seguirà quella finale di 'C'era una volta in America' quasi 15 anni dopo, prima della prematura scomparsa del regista nel 1989.

Ormai famosissimo e senza limiti di mezzi, Leone realizza con 'Giù la testa' un film epico, che narra dell'amicizia tra un bandito messicano e un irlandese esperto in esplosivi, sullo sfondo della rivoluzione messicana del 1913; della durata di oltre due ore, la pellicola assume quasi toni da colossal hollywoodiano, un'epicità solo a tratti accompagnata dalla musica di Morricone, che qui punta più sul romanticismo e la malinconia suscitate dai ricordi dei due protagonisti.

A questa colonna sonora sarebbe bastato il solo tema principale per passare alla storia, grazie al motivetto 'Sean-Sean' che ricorre più volte nei brani del disco, e soprattutto alla melodia intonata da Edda Dell'Orso, un motivo che anche il meno appassionato di musica non potrà non riconoscere!

Questo titolo chiude la serie delle ristampe AMS Records/Vinyl Magic dedicate al connubio Leone/Morricone, con la consueta rinnovata veste grafica, un poster 60x30cm in allegato con lobby card e locandine e un vinile colorato arancio/oro.
