In the 1950 s, a stage play, and a subsequent film were hits on Broadway and on the big screen. The title Bell, Book And Candle had in common with Rosemary s Baby , a present day New York City inhabited by witches and covens. The only difference being that BB&C was a rom-com. Rosemary s Baby was something altogether different and much darker. Based on Ira Levin s best-selling book, Polanski faithfully translated it into what is till considered one of the greatest Gothic horror movies ever; it is helped in no small measure by Krzysztof Komeda s startlingly original music reinforced with a restless choir. The opening and striking chords of the main theme are disturbingly counter-pointed by Mia Farrow s breathy lullaby. The genius of his musical score is celebrated here in these six carefully chosen tracks.
